Elle Festival 2014 | Glow in the dark lamps by Bernotat&CO

Bernotat&Co presents

Radiolaria lamps

with glow-in-the-dark effect

Bernotat&Co | Radiolaria lamps with glow-in-the-dark effect

At the Elle Festival in Amsterdam I saw these amazing glow in the dark lights by Bernotat&Co.

The lamps seem to flow under water or in space...
I love the textile, the soft look and the organic, natural shape!

Bernotat&Co | Radiolaria lamps with glow-in-the-dark effect

Bernotat&Co | Radiolaria lamps with glow-in-the-dark effect

"Focus of Mikro/Makrokosmos are the Radiolaria, a series of 11 lamps made of 3D-knitted textile with glow-in-the-dark effect, inspired by microscopic organisms and the phenomenon of bioluminescence. They’re presented in a spatial installation with film. When the light is switched off, the Radiolaria leave a mysterious green afterglow. Each lamp has a different shape, but they’re all equally rotund and strangely scaleless. Are they bacteria? Plancton? Plant seeds? Or maybe planets?

The Radiolaria are made from woven and knitted 3D spacer fabrics, which are normally hidden inside products and not used for optical purposes. The glow-in-the-dark effect - similar to the effect which everybody knows from kids’ stickers and toys - has been integrated into this technical textile. Thanks to the stiffness of the material and its 3D-structure, the soft lamps have natural volume and don’t require additional reinforcement. The force of gravity influences their final shape, making them charmingly imperfect."

More information about Bernotat&Co:

Bernotat&Co is a design studio based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, run by Anke Bernotat and Jan Jacob Borstlap. Among their recent projects are the widely published ChairWearcollection, the Cellular Loopchair in cooperation with Folkwang University of the Arts, the Triennial for Gispen and Tangramchocolate bars. essence of Bernotat&Co’s work is to ponder the poetry of normalcy, to tease the rules and discover exceptions, to heighten the contrast between the mundane and surprising. Within these vagaries of perception, the final result becomes an inspiring and practical product.

Anke Bernotat was born in Germany, studied Industrial Design in Wuppertal and worked as a designer for Norman Foster and Jasper Morrison in London as well as for n/p/k Industrial Design in Leiden (Netherlands). She has taught at Design Academy Eindhoven and currently holds a position as professor of Industrial Design at Folkwang-University of the Arts, Essen. In 2007, she established design studio Bernotat&Co in Amsterdam.

Jan Jacob Borstlap born in The Netherlands, studied Industrial Design in Delft, made a career switch into exhibition and graphic design at the multidisciplinary agency BRS Premsela Vonk (later Eden Spiekermann). Started working as as an independent exhibition designer in 2001 and joined Bernotat&Co in 2011 for Chair Wear, the first joint project in product design.

In this magical film you can see how it works.

Do you like them as much as I do?

Bernotat&Co presenteren

Radiolaria lampen

Plancton? Plant zaden? Of misschien planeten?

Vitra and Mobilia at Elle Festival Amsterdam "Collage Living"

Scoll naar beneden voor NL
[ enjoy the photo's on the way!]
Vitra at Elle Festival Amsterdam | By C-More

I had such a nice weekend in Amsterdam during Elle Festival.
At this event fashion, food and interior designers [and brands]
showcase their products or concepts throughout the entire city center.
Combined with the nice sunny weather and some blogfriends I met,
it was a perfect weekend for me!

One of the highlights was the city apartment that was designed,
decorated and styled bij Mobilia and Vitra.

As you know I'm a huge fan of Vitra. One of the reasons is that they often show the concept of a what I call "collage living". That means that you pick your own items that tell a story or are special to you. Some stay longer and some will be exchanged for other items. You combine them like a collage.

I saved a text by Vitra from some years ago that describes exactly what it means. I kept it with me all the time, because I believe that this is the essence of interior design when you are decorating and choosing the furniture....

" Philosophy :
The Vitra Home Collection is not a facility program that promotes a cohesive style. Vitra sees decorating a room more like a collage, a collection of products and objects.
It should not be construed as an accidental jumble, but as a conscious selection made in the course of time and in his style and size, influences the preferences and living conditions of the possessor.
Some favourite pieces remain in focus for a lifetime, others get a new goal.

Obsolete objects disappear and new ones added - albeit from the flea market, the furniture store or as a souvenir of a trip.
The collage becomes an arrangement with a structure and the great designs are the power center of this structure.
Personality is always key: as every individual has their own taste and style, so gives the placement of these objects expression and contributes to their own well-being, because the way we live and how we shape our personal environment, is part of our own identity.
Therefore, the collage is more vivid than conventional matched set configurations that capture a particular moment - the moment of the design - and prevent a further development.
The Vitra Home Collection includes many unique products for your living space, from more than 70 years of design history, with which you can supplement your individual collage and decorate; from classics by Charles & Ray Eames, George Nelson, Jean Prouvé, Verner Panton and Isamu Noguchi to contemporary designs by Maarten Van Severen, Jasper Morrison, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Hella Jongerius and other leading designers.."

So now you know how I think about interior decorating :-) I fully embrace this concept. Especially in this time, where you have to make choices where you want or can spend your money on.
I always advise my clients to choose with their heart, and combine the items with pieces they already have in their collection.

In the apartment by Vitra and Mobilia at Elle festival there was no difference.
By combining the personal items with the Vitra design pieces it felt like someone was actually living in there. So they did a great job!

Summertime GiveAway |  Normann Copenhagen |Design Carafe 'Cristal'  by Marcel Wanders | C-More

The 21th of june it's official:
Summertime!!
The best time of the year.
The days are long and there is more time
to relax with friends and family.
To celebrate that, Normann Copenhagen and I
have a wonderful GiveAway for you:

The Normann Copenhagen
Cristal Carafe
by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders

The Cristal Carafe is all about the joy of sharing.
That's why its such a great design item for the summer.
I can already see myself [and you yourself maybe...] sitting in a sunny garden or park with nice drinks and bites and enjoying the company of nice people.

I like the minimal shape and the combination of the two different materials in the carafe: plastic and glass. Marcel Wanders says: “I like to play around. I like it to be a little bit strange. For instance the combination of a carafe in glass and cups in plastic. It is that little creative thought that surprises you”.

About Normann Copenhagen:

"WE BELIEVE IN GREAT DESIGN"
"Normann Copenhagen is a young Danish design company with the mission to create original, bold and eye-catching products in a simple and contemporary design that withstands the test of time. Or in other words, to challenge conventional thinking and make the ordinary extraordinary through good and innovative design."

That's why I love this scandinavian design brand!

So If you would like to celebrate summer and win this super GiveAway The Cristal Carafe,

then write a comment right here at this blogpost.
Make sure I can contact you if you win!

Enjoy and good luck!
